Sinopsis
Trace the life of the novelist whose compassionate eye and unflinching honesty made him one of the defining voices of 20th‑century America. The episode follows Steinbeck from his California childhood — where the landscapes and people of the Salinas Valley shaped his imagination — through his early struggles to find his literary footing. Biography explores how works like Of Mice and Men, The Grapes of Wrath, and East of Eden emerged from his deep concern for ordinary people and his belief in social justice. Through interviews, archival footage, and excerpts from his letters and journals, the program reveals Steinbeck’s complex personality, his journalistic ventures during World War II, and the acclaim that culminated in the Nobel Prize. Ultimately, the episode portrays a writer whose empathy, curiosity, and storytelling brilliance captured the American experience in all its hardship and hope.
